Outreach and Events
Each year, the KU School of Engineering hosts several events, camps and programs that let students of all ages and their teachers explore the possibilities of engineering.  Whether you're trying to find out if engineering is a good career choice for you, or if you want to get a taste for life at KU, there's a KU School of Engineering event or camp for you.

Sparkology Mini-Camps for grade and middle schoolers

Sparkology mini-camps take place on select Saturdays from 10am - 12pm at the School of Engineering, unless otherwise noted.  Sparkology mini-camps are offered by {Spark} in partnership with various other School of Engineering student organizations.  Unless otherwise noted, the registration fee for each camp is $10* (fee waivers available).

Grades 1-3

Nov. 23rd                    Balloon Car, Hosted by Women In Design

Do you think a Balloon could power a car? Come build your own balloon powered car given different limitations and learn about engineering and design principles. You will also get to test your balloon cars against the ones that the other student build!

Dec. 7th                       Oil Spill Clean Up, Hosted by KU Solar Car

Come learn how oil is cleaned out of the ocean when there are oil rig spills. You will get to challenge other students by coming up with the best ways to clean up simulation oil spills using materials you are given.

Grades 4-5

Nov. 23rd                    Pvc Pipe challenge, Hosted by KU Engineers Without Borders         

Come design and build a system to move water around different obstacles and limitations using PVC pipe to see who can move the most water given the materials provided and objective of the challenges.

Grades 6-8

Nov. 23rd                    GirlCode -  Creating an Interactive Piano, 1-3pm, Hosted by Women in Computing (Free)  Sign-up HERE!

Learn how to creat your own interactive piano keyboard in Minecraft! Raspberry Pis and Python code will be used. No prior experience necessary!

Dec. 7th                       Rock Paper Scissors Machine, Hosted by KU Robotics Organization

Have you ever wanted to make your own game using electrical components and circuits? Come make your own rock paper scissors machine using logic gates and wiring and play against other members.

Fee Waivers

Fee waivers are available for students that receive free or reduced school lunches.  Contact Lindsey McCaig, lmccaig@ku.edu for more information.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Once paid, registration fees are non-refundable.
If notice of cancellation is received at least 5 days in advance of the camp, the registration fee can be applied towards another camp being held within that semester.
Cancellations received less than 5 days in advance will result in the loss of the registration fee.
